Animal Welfare Board of India headquarters Moved  to Chennai to Ballabhgarh. Indian Government has Moved headquarters of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) to Ballabhgarh in Faisalabad District of Haryana from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

It was moved after consultation with Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) for better coordination between the Environment Ministry and Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) for carrying out the animal welfare activities.

The Rule 3 of the Animal Welfare Board Administrative Rules, 1962 mentions that the Headquarter of Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) shall be at New Delhi or at such other place as central goverment may after consultation with the Board direct.

Animal Welfare Board of India is a statutory advisory body established in 1962 under Section 4 of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. It is a limitation of the rules that how animals should behave everywhere in human beings.Also, to ensure this, tough laws are often made to ensure that the animals were not harassed or harassed unfairly.

Initially it was in the jurisdiction of the Food and Agriculture Ministry. Later in 1990, the subject of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was transferred to the Ministry of Environment.
The Board has 28 members, who work for a period of 3 years. Its headquarters are located in Chennai, Tamilnadu. Several government organizations with animal rights activists and MPs are represented in the board.

Functions of (AWBI) Animal Welfare Board of India

It gives recognition to animal welfare organizations by approving them on meeting their guidelines. This (honorable) appoints the prominent people on the posts of Animal Welfare Officers (AWOs), who serve as the principal point of contact between people, government and law enforcement agencies.

It suggests changes in laws and rules about animal welfare issues. It provides interpretation of laws and also to help them to apply the guidance to organizations and authorities such as the police. It releases the publication to raise awareness about various animal welfare issues. That its education team discuss animal welfare issues, and make a certified animal welfare educator community members

It provides financial assistance for identifying AWOs, which present the application to the Board. Grant categorie include Regular Grant, Cattle Rescue Grant, Shelter House for Animals, Animal Birth Control (ABC) program, Ambulance for animals in distress and natural calamity grants.
